Does this torrent work? I keep getting the error: Connection Error (invalid reply:

It should. 587 downloads have completed. Sorry, but don't know what is your problem.

Why is it not possible to give some standard download? Torrent is not available in my network so i am unable to download this image...and many many more of them...:(
By Anonymous, at 4:38 AM
With the browser appliance, I can move the mouse out of the VM while it is receiving input. With Ubuntu, I have to ctrl-alt first. This makes using it with a maximised window somewhat awkward. Any ideas?

Error (Tracker error 3) Is there a normal download link?
By Anonymous, at 11:38 PM
In the Configuration Comment I see that the Root password should be "ubuntu", but that password is not working. Does someone know what the root password is?

I get two files in the RAR file. VMDK and the NVRAM. Is this correct? It seems like there should be a couple more.

If the given root password doen't work, Here is a suggestion I fount in TUX magazine:
All you need to do is reboot the machine. When you are presented with the Grub menu, hit the e key. This will allow you to edit the current boot options. Select the line that begins with 'kernel', hit the e key again to edit that line and add the word single at the end of the line and press the Enter key. Now press b to boot with the modified boot options.
You'll now be presented with the command line. At the command line simply enter passwd and press Enter. You'll be prompted, twice, for a new password.
After you have finished entering the new password, type in exit and press Enter, and the machine will continue booting into the normal process. Your root password has now been changed."

The rar contains VMSD (0 bytes) and VMX (1399 bytes) files also.

I also had lots of problems trying to use Azureus to download Torrent files from VMWare. I gave up and tried the program from www.bittorrent.com. It works MUCH better.
By Anonymous, at 5:53 AM
I guess you should add more trackers. I have trouble connecting to that tracker as many others have said before.
By Anonymous, at 7:50 AM
Tracker doesn't work. O'well.
By Anonymous, at 1:34 PM
Have tried 2 Windows and 1 Linux bit-torrent clients and all report errors. Have been able to download other VM torrents ok.
By Anonymous, at 4:43 PM
once again:
torrent does not work.
i tried azureus in windows and a client in linux. result:
error(s): [10:27:38] bad data from tracker - not a valid bencoded string
why isn't possible to provide a "standard" download like almost any others in the web?
By Anonymous, at 1:22 AM
WTF? why don't you provide a simple fuckin' download link instead of this fuckin' torrent shite
By Anonymous, at 2:33 AM
fix your muthafickin' mysql server shite, the torrent is not fuckin' downloadable

seems the tracker has a problem?
ERROR: bad data from tracker
By Anonymous, at 1:23 AM
Torrent is still NOT working!
By Anonymous, at 7:22 AM
The linl does not work on BitTorrent nor Azure.
But no problem with Opera 9.0 intergrated client.
By Anonymous, at 7:36 AM
Torrent does not work, it got stuck at 0% Why make things so difficult - it seems to be a fashion to make things overly complicated without any real logic behind it (perhaps other than server bandwidth considerations). I want to download a zip file.
From the browser, right-click, save as.... That used to work.
Folks, I don't have time for this.
Bye Quit

torrent does not work!
gnome-btdownload stops with a error.
mldonkey doesnt start either.
come on zolti, please fix this
By Anonymous, at 11:38 PM
i probably wont help , but if your using Azureus you might try right clicking the loaded torrent and adding in the 2 other networks
in advanced/networks IP2 and TOR
as after a while i got connected to 3 of the 69 seeds even though the tracker is still showing an error.
so far iv not connected to any of the 236 peers but i assume they havent set the other two networks in their clients. 4th aug 2006 10.30 am.

this is not working uder mutorrent (utorrent)
By Anonymous, at 10:06 PM
Go directly to linuxtracker.org where you can obtain the torrent without error messages. At least, I did (using BitTorrent) and I got error messages when attempting to use the link on this blog. BTW, many thanks to zsolti for making this happen.
By Anonymous, at 11:22 AM
THIS SHIT DOESN'T WORK!!!!!!!!!!!
By Anonymous, at 9:59 PM
no workie for me either, even from linuxtracker.org.
By Kafka, at 5:56 AM
The tracker has corrupt information for this torrent. Please reset.
By Anonymous, at 3:14 AM
for all those who are having trouble downloadng this go to www.linuxtracker.org and register there. Then login and go to this link http://linuxtracker.org/torrents-details.php?id=2392
download the torrent from there and then use any of ur favourite bittorrent client:) hope this helps!
By Anonymous, at 1:17 AM
well after SOME research and trying the router/adsl modem configurations suggested; FINALLY got (a very little)BitTorrent to work (perhaps has not finished yet though it seems to report it is downloading).
So look for help on configuring your router/adsl modem and try tehm out.
I use D-Link stuff and had to setup virtual server, firewall rules, blah blah all the things I found in google search "bittorrent d-link".
My conclusion is though that BitTorrent is PAINFULLY difficult to use.
If VMware want to use it they will lose customers unless they have an alternate download method.
By Anonymous, at 3:40 AM
hi everyone, i had similar problems too, but i just tried upgrading to the lastest bittorrent client (4.20.8) and it worked.. don't be so hard on people that are giving you stuff FOR FREE!!!
By Anonymous, at 6:34 AM
Hi Gaurev and all
I tried your suggestion, using the linuxtracker.org tracker and opened the torrent in the latest version of bitcomet. There is a problem with this tracker also the problem is below:
Connecting Tracker to say Start, waiting for response
I left it for a good while and the tracker still doesnt get back with a connection; any ideas?
BTW All other torrents download fine using bitcomet for me, this is the first problem I've had with torrents with bitcomet
By Anonymous, at 12:18 PM
Hi All,
To add to my comment above; the tracker worked fine after I reset my pc and re opened bitcomet; For people having similar troubles just close and re open your bit torrent client or reset your pc like I did.
By Anonymous, at 12:54 PM
Sorry for the problems with the tracker. We were experiencing some growing pains and have taken some measures to correct them. The torrent is downloading properly now. As far as any issues with the torrent itself, you need to post those problems at http://linuxtracker.org/phpbb2.php as that site is totally seperate from this blog and not owned by the same person.
They're both free though!
By Anonymous, at 2:24 PM
Hi I've tried utorrent and ABC and neither of them work. ABC return bad header error.
I have no problems with other sites.

This still doesn't work
By Anonymous, at 11:18 AM
as of Aug 22, 11:00am EDT, the torrent still has no seeders. I've been running it for 12 hours now. Great idea, but too hard to get :(
By Anonymous, at 8:08 AM
Hi,
I was trying to seed this but there's something wrong with the tracker (it's giving an error, something to do with MySQL I think).
Anyway thanks very much for creating this, I've been using it for some time!
To anyone who can't download it, you could download Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 (which is free!), create the virtual machine using that, and then convert it to a VMWare Virtual Machine (as VMWare Player can't create machines).

I cannot login into Ubuntu. I mean I get till the ubuntu desktop window. But it seems it freezes there. I cannot type the username into the box. As if the keyboard driver is not loaded. No key works. Also, when I click inside the VM, mouse disappears. It does not come back again at all. Please someone help.
By Anonymous, at 11:12 PM
Does someone have a standard download link? I can't use bittorrent on my work network.
By Anonymous, at 1:57 PM
I wish Vmware would monitor these appliances. Last 4 appliances have all been dead links.
By Anonymous, at 3:00 PM
How much fixed file space is there available? The other file has 3Gb and I find that a bit small...

Fuck you assholes, torrent doesn't work!!!

hy is it not possible to give some standard download?
By Anonymous, at 5:39 AM
Hey, to everyone whining about bittorrent...
This is NOT an appliance that was built by VMWare. It was put together by Zsolti (whoever he is) for the benefit of the community (you). My guess is that he is just a regular guy who configured this up and then released it to make it easier for you. Now, if he is like most regular guys, he doesn't have the bandwidth to server up 600+MB to 100s of whining moochers. Enter bittorrent. Everyone contributes bandwidth and everyone can get the files. You are right, it isn't as easy as clicking on a link and downloading it, but who would pay for that bandwidth? No one is making any money off of you downloading and using this appliance. Learn to use bittorrent or try to find someone who *IS* willing to provide the bandwidth. If you need help using bittorrent, there is this cool web page www.google.com it will tell you all about getting it set up.
Quite whining and learn to help yourself.
By Anonymous, at 2:26 PM
Well said! For me everything went fine with bittorrent. No problems while downloading, easy to use appliance. Thanks and cheers to Zsolti!
By Anonymous, at 3:14 PM
torrent worked fine for me!
(utorrent)
I was even behind a firewall (and can't forward the ports u should for bittorrent) and it still downloaded fine over night (a bit slower perhaps, but still averaged about 50kb/sec).
sorry if some people can't work out how to use bittorrent ;-) (although they can use linux?? ;-)
