  • I have two 1280x1024 screens. How do you get kubuntu to fill one of these. It seems only to go to a max of 1280x960, and the screen size slider wont go higher. Also how do you get the mouse to seamlessly go from one screen to another without having to press ctrl-alt? I've seen this working on other vm's that I've tried out.

  • About linuxtracker: maybe they have an internal problem...
Could you suggest another tracker site, where I can also publish these virtual appliances? Thanks.

  • To configure available screen resolutions use "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" and select the needed. After it you sould restart the X server by CTRL-ALT-Backspace (sometimes login and startx are also needed, probably in ubuntu ; kubuntu starts the X automatically). I hope it solves your problem.

  • yeah, I found that eventually. Wonder why it couldn't have been configured to use upto 1920x1200 (or higher 30" LCD anybody) automatically, right now the screen resolution slider doesn't go up all the way unless you run that sudo command.

I know to get the mouse to move seamlessly across desktops it has to use the vmmouse driver, except when I tried it things crashed, and had to re-extract the archive. Still not got that to work (yet).

  • I am a Linux novice and have downloaded and installed this version of kubuntu on a WinXP Pro host.
I have Viewsonic 171s monitor in 1024x768 mode (host).
My problem is that there seems nothing I can do to get the kubuntu screen to completely fill the vmware player window (whatever its size; full screen or not) - i.e. no scroll bars, no buttons on kubuntu application screens hidden and unaccessable.
How can I get kubuntu or vmware player or both to adjust fonts, sizes of application screens etc. so that all of a panel fits in the vmware player display window?

A secondary question, if the vmplayer screen is not full screen, is there an easy way to just use the mouse to select which window I type in rather than always having to use Ctrl+Alt to switch back to the Windows Host and Ctrl+G to get to the kubuntu guest?

  • Unfortunately I cannot download the torrent file. I have tried it in a few different days. Is there any problem with the download site?

  • To the owner of the viewsonic. I think that the screen resolution is initially 1280x960 and the way to change that is to try the following command:
    K->system->konsole
    then type in
    sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
and select 1024x768. That should be it.

The reason the mouse doesn't work properly is the service vmware-tools (K->System Settings->System Services) doesn't work, nor can it be made to. (unless someone else knows how, maybe a new build addressing this issue needs to be released)

You can get the mouse to track properly if you go to /usr/lib/vmware-tools/bin32 and double click on vmware-toolbox from konqueror.

While this window is displayed, the mouse will work across desktops without using ctrl-alt, ctrl-g

  • Hi...I downloaded Kubuntu without VMware tools and I had several problems with installing them...the console was still speaking about missing of make file or (then) about my C header files etc...I followed all the instruction, but it didn't help...I think the problem could be relatively new version of Kernel (2.6.15-26-386), it's not compatible with VMware tools, am I right? Otherwise I don't know...and if it's true, I really don't know how to reconfigure the Kernel or Tools to make it work...
